Let me introduce you to Megzz – she is my most favourite alter ego, Vancouver Basic BB, mostly because she lives in ultimate comfort and gets to wear lululemon yoga pants paired with a denim jackets and a blanket scarf at all times.
Megzz made an appearance on this rainy, foggy Sunday morning in June to pop into Pallet Coffee Roasters on Semlin Drive in East Van for her standard Americano and Avocado Ricotta Toast.
Tucked behind the ever busy East Hastings Street, this little hideway was exactly what I was looking for today. Both small and spacious at the same time, the sweet and kind barista at the front saved my day when she removed the temporarily unavailable sign from the Avocado Toast on the menu.
Crisis averted, Ian and I were able to enjoy our velvety Flat White and Americano accompanied by cheery slices of Avo Toast. Extra slow to start on this lazy Sunday, these delicious coffees were exactly what we needed to kick start a day chock full of errands.
An order of Avocado Ricotta ($8.50) shared between the two of us, we also ordered 2 poached eggs for $3. Featuring a mixture of smashed avo and ricotta with sprouts, radish, and most importantly pickled onions spread evenly over a slice of sourdough, this light lunch felt well worth it in all of its lemon zesty glory.
Served with a simple side salad of mixed greens dancing in a delightfully sweet dressing, this is what dreams are made of for Vancouver Basic BBs so my heart was full this morning.
And don’t even get me started on those pickled onions because those were the real highlight for me. I guess I must just get what I want because light and refreshing were what I requested and light and refreshing were what I got.
Just under $20 for two to dine, would I come again? Uh – do I even have a Live Love Laugh sign in my home?
Of course, I’ll be back.
